From Receiving to Going

From Receiving to Going

Have you ever noticed how comfortable it can be to stay in learning mode? There’s something safe about sitting in church pews, reading devotionals with your morning coffee, and attending Bible studies week after week. These activities are wonderful and necessary for spiritual growth, but they were never meant to be our final destination.

Jesus designed discipleship as a journey with a clear progression. He calls us to follow Him, teaches us to see the world through His eyes, and then commissions us to go. Think about it – medical students don’t spend their entire careers in classrooms, and seminary graduates don’t remain students forever. At some point, the training wheels must come off.

The beautiful truth is that Jesus doesn’t want us to be perpetual receivers. He has equipped us through His church not just to grow personally, but to join His team in sharing the hope of the gospel with others. This doesn’t mean we stop learning or growing – it means we begin applying what we’ve learned in real, meaningful ways.

Perhaps you’ve been in that comfortable chair with your coffee and devotional for a while now. That’s okay – but consider this your gentle invitation to take the next step. Jesus has been preparing you for something greater than just receiving. He’s been preparing you to go.

Bible Verse

‘Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”‘ – Luke 10:2

Reflection Question

What has kept you in ‘receiving mode’ rather than stepping into the ‘going’ that Jesus calls you to, and what would it look like for you to take one small step forward this week?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for all the ways You’ve been teaching and growing me. Help me recognize that my spiritual growth was meant to overflow into action. Give me courage to step out of my comfort zone and join You in Your mission. Show me where You want me to go. Amen.
